South Carolina Pulled Pork in Upstate NY
Last week, for the 4th of July weekend, I made a South Carolina style BBQ pulled pork for my family get together.  I’d been wanting to make this kind of slow cooked, fall-apart piece of pork for a while.  And when I picked up the Summer Grilling 2010 issue of Cook’s Illustrated, I knew exactly what I would be feeding my family. Cook’s Illustrated is THE definitive guide for...

The pane e panelle sandwich from bar stuzzichini....
from ny mag: “The chickpea-flour fritters at this Flatiron restaurant are unsurpassed — properly thin and shatteringly crisp, with Parmesan and parsley whisked into the batter. They’re shoved into a Tomcat seeded brioche bun slathered with creamy ricotta and speckled with tangy caciocavallo. One heavenly bite and this could be Palermo.” i think i ate this whole sandwich in three...

i love it - 1 star for pulino's
Hello friends, how goes it?  Yes I know I haven’t been posting much.  What can I say?  Life and it’s responsibilities beckon.  But I had to share this link after my recent dining experience at Pulino’s. Pulino’s is Keith McNally’s latest restaurant in downtown Manhattan.  It’s his take on the rage du jour - Neapolitan pizza.  And obviously it’s packed....

poutine - a little taste of quebec here in nyc
The rents recently had the pleasure of spending a long weekend in Quebec City.  They ate.  They drank.  They had a great time.   As for me, I have the pleasure of having some very thoughtful parents and it was in my honor that they brought back a bag of cheese curds and a St. Hubert melange a sauce aka sauce packet of poutine gravy. Twas a ridiculously simple process.  Slice up some russet...

Swedish Toast Skagen
A few summers ago, I had the pleasure of spending a few weeks in Sweden.  I spent my days and nights getting to know Stockholm, Nynasham and Gotland.  Needless to say, I loved everything about the place.  From the cleanliness of the city to the bucolic beauty of the countryside. But what I remember most vividly are the tasty toast skagen sandwiches that were the staple of every cafe and...

Martha Roasts a Bird
Tonight, I roasted a chicken.  And it was one of the easiest and simplest dishes I’ve ever made. I used a 3 1/2 lb. organic bird sourced from my local Whole Foods.  The greenmarket vendor who I used to buy my birds from (Knoll Crest Farms) no longer sells whole birds.  They only offer eggs and fresh pastas.  Excellent yes.  But I needed a whole bird.  Oh well. Once I had my...
