Ippudo
In today’s NY Times, food critic Frank Bruni delivers a not so scathing one star review of my favorite ramen mecca Ippudo.
I used to take Bruni seriously when he took over for Amanda Hesser at the Times. But now, I count the days till his retirement this summer. How can you possibly review Ippudo and barely mention the pork hirata buns? How can you review Ippudo and not mention the sheer...

One more thing
All this posting and thinking and reflecting on my dinner last night coupled with the Spotted Pig link is making me crave some gnudi really badly now.
But I can’t exactly take off from work to satisy my hunger for a few hours can I? Instead, here’s the Spotted Pig gnudi recipe. It’s simple and looks like it will be as delicious as the Pig’s version.
SPOTTED PIG’S...
A note about last night
As you can see from my pix below, I had the pleasure of dining at the counter at John Dory last night. John Dory is the seafood spin-off from the gastro-pub peeps behind The Spotted Pig (think incredible gorgonzola burger and life-affirming gnudi - NO JOKE THE ricotta gnudi is f%cking that good at the Pig).
Anyway, before I rip off on another topic, let me give props where props are due. Chef...
This is incredible
Today’s Tasting Table (cooking section) directs us to the “other JCC” - The Japanese Culinary Center at 711 Third Ave. 212-661-3333.
I don’t know what “other JCC” Tasting Table is respectively referring to but I’m damn sure this is going to be the ONLY JCC in my life. I’ve had it up to here with faux JCC’s but this looks like the real deal.

Brunch at Ssam Momofuku
Here’s a sampling of food porn from my recent brunch at Ssam Momofuku. I enjoyed. And afterwards, I enjoyed even more at Momofuku Milk Bar. Yes, there is a statue of David Chang in my living room. What? Is that weird? Who doesn’t have one?
An excellent selection of real ginger ales. I was very partial to the one from Maine.
Softshell crab steamed bun. Softshell crab is...
Holy Moly Momofuku
Get out your calendars and mark the date: October 27th, 2009 is the day that the blinds are opened and David Chang (Ssam Momofuku, Momofuku Noodle Bar, Momofuku Ko and Momofuku Milk Bar) releases his Momofuku cookbook.
My Xmas wish list has been updated. Please buy me this book. Gracias.
Adventures in Paella
Last night, a paella was born in me kitchen.
After all the research I did and all the websites I scoured, I have to give credit to the Paella Primer at the Naked Whiz. This website served as the first, last and ultimately foremost authority on making an authentic Valencian paella. It guided me through the entire journey - from buying the rice to preparing the soffrito. A HUGE thanks goes out to...
Save the Date
Saturday, May 16th at 4pm!!!! Save it. Book it. Reserve it. NOW.
For on Saturday, May 16th, you and I will relish and revel in crawfish, beer, crawfish, hurricanes and more crawfish at Stuyvesant Cove Park on FDR Drive and 22nd Street.
