dumb founded!
I’m just dumb founded at how good a baked and steamed pork bun can be. After having a shitty morning at work today, I received a lovely email (thanks Nish!!!!) reminding me that the infamous and cult-followed Chinatown bakery Mei Li Wah (see previous post) was still up and running and churning out it’s heavenly pork buns.
I wasted no time! I hopped on my bike. Hoofed my walk down to Chinatown. Avoided getting crushed by a garbage and FreshDirect truck and finally made it to Mott and Bayard Streets.
Behold and revel in my fantastic lunchtime joy. I forgot how happy a few pieces of roast pork baked and steamed within a bun can actually make me.
Below are the steamed pork buns. They’re excellent. Soft, tender, and full of flavor.

And below are the champs: the baked pork buns. As good as the steamed ones are, the baked are just another level of greatness. They are the Michael Jordan to the steamed’s Scottie Pippen. And yet, I’m the winner in all this revelry.

I suggest dabbing a bit of Sriracha on them for some additional lovin’.
